OUR PROMISE

The sword's blade has been described as cold.  It is drawn, and the vapor of the atmosphere collects on it's surface.  The curve of it's back unites exquisite grace and strength.  The texture is rich, yet pure, with hues of blue.  The edge matchless - upon it history lies.

A Dynasty Forge sword is a piece of functional art, a modern heirloom, a symbol of power and prestige.  With our deep respect for the traditional process of swordsmanship, Dynasty Forge takes up a unique place in the continuity of the Japanese blade - at once tradition and modern.  Our swords are made according to the craft and design of the ancient weapon and we draw on centuries of tradition devoted to sword refinery.

We are confident that Dynasty Forge offers the finest swords available outside Japan.  Our blades are made with genuine respect for authentic design and process.  Yet we recognize the modern warrior's need for a weapon that incorporates contemporary materials and methods.  We offer a choice, while proudly guaranteeing attention to the hallmarks of traditional Japanese sword ethics.

OUR STORY

At Dynasty Forge, we could never achieve our goal of producing an authentic product without acquiring a full appreciation of the history and evolution of the Japanese sword.  It's an extremely artistic and intricate process, probably originating in China and making its way to Japan through Korea as early as the 4th century.

By the Heian period (794 - 1185), the Japanese had progressed in their steel working techniques and eventually produced Tachi, a blade that is curved and light enough to be held in one hand.

Further refinement in the Kamakura period ( 1185 - 1333) introduced a sharper cutting edge and a more shock-resistant blade.  This period is known as "the golden age of the Japanese sword" - a time when beauty and elegance merged with the powerful purpose of these formidable weapons.

In the Momoyama period (1568 - 1603) Uchigatana blades - designed to be worn edge-side up at the waist - evolved into two blades: a larger one called a katana and a shorter one called a Wakizashi.

In the past few decades, after years of political and regulatory limbo, the craft of the Japanese sword has undergone a serious revival.  However, the sword making process is strictly regulated in Japan, and this greatly inflates prices while limiting availability to you, the buyer.  Dynasty Forge is not bound by such regulation - we produce our swords outside Japanes jurisdiction, while retaining all the craft of the original sword making artistry.
