Shogei Or Kyoketsu-shogei was a knife attached to one end of a long cord made of braided women's hair or horse hair, or sometimes chain. On the other end of the cord was a ring. The knife could be used in close quarters or swung around by holding on to the ring. The hook was often used to facilitate climbing or again as a close quarters weapon in a racking fashion. From a height the user would often use it to strangle a foe by whipping the chain around the neck and hanging them.
This shogee is made of steel and is 14" in length. The blade is 8" long with a 6" handle. The hook begins 6" from the blade tip and is 3 1/4" in width. The ring is is 1/4" steel and 3 7/8" in diameter. The Chain is 1/2" twist link steel and approximately 15' long
