Citadel's products are designed to meet the requirements of Martial Arts practitioners by staying as close as possible to the historic aspects of the weapons utilized. Alloy replicas may well be of good quality, but they just don't have the look and feel of a perfectly balanced weapon of genuine forged steel construction How would a samurai feel if he tried one of our blades?? With this question always in mind we decided that we would stick to a number of strict criteria: PROPER MATERIALS, CORRECT PROPORTIONS, RIGIDITY and WEIGHT, and a manufacturing processes that keep the use of machines to a bear minimum and only to reduce the strain but without taking away from the quality of his work. We have deliberately chosen to PRODUCE LITTLE in order to PRODUCE BETTER. Whenever possible we work by hand, which means that each and every one of our products is individually crafted. Our workshop controls all stages of production from our TRADITIONAL THREE HAMMER FORGE in CHARCOAL FIRE to TO OUR FINE HANDCRAFTED KOSHIRAE. Each forged blade is MONITORED INDIVIDUALLY. It is carefully covered in clay and quenched which after HAND POLISHING will produce a GENUINE HAMON. Everything is handcrafted from the precision cast or carved fuchi/kashira, shitidome to the precision cast menuki. Each katana is then mounted with a HAND CARVED and CHISELED IRON TSUBA, not cast, stamped or molded, they are cut from solid iron plate and are true work of art on their own.. The kurigata, kojiri, and koiguchi are handcrafted of the FINEST BUFFALO HORN. The tsuka is wrapped in GENUINE SAME and wrapped in either LEATHER or SILK ITO after being finely fitted to the blade. The SAYA are HANDCARVED, as is the tsuka, of a non-siliceous tree species related to magnolia. Citadel's wish is to make a truly traditional product available at a fair price to the connoisseur and practitioner alike. Aesthetic features being a constant concern.
